the balinese calendar

More and more I am being exposed to the multiple layers of existence here in Bali. For some reason, things are never simple. When I was sitting with Ketut he started to point out some of the upcoming holidays on the calendar that are national, or religious, or just recommended times to do certain actions. So I asked him to translate the auspicious days for January and February, and this is what came up:

Jan. 16,23 – good day to put a yoke on a cow

6,8,13,16,21 – good for making fishing equipment

2,5,9,12,28,29 – good for making a gamelon chime

5,6,29 – good for buying a computer, television, motorcycle and car

29,30 – good for building a temple

28,29 – good for election

23 – good for washing your body

22,25,30 – good for cutting your hair

12, 29 – for moving to a new house

Feb. 8,28 – good for sales

7,8 – for carving a mask

10,29 – good for building a wall around your house

16,28 – for cutting trees to build with

24,26,28 – good for making rules, procedures, job descriptions

5,26,28 - goof for taking a long trip

6,8,13,20,22,27 – good for cutting your hair

2,7 – good for building a lumbung

5,9,16,24,26 – good for making fishing equipment

6,7,9,20,27 – good for making a knife

So….with that in mind…..it is not a surprise that sometimes things don't happen when you want them too! They may just be waiting for the auspicious day to do them. I myself have noticed that eventually everything I need to do gets done….but I just have to wait for the right timing, the right energy, the right willingness….and trust that all is perfect.
